Noise Pollution and Running with the Bulls

All the best traditional marketing tools and techniques are getting drowned out by AI noise pollution. Smaller and some mid-sized companies are producing more AI content and automating their posting to social media and video platforms.

Although some action is being taken to call out or diminish AI slop and churned-out content, it's whack-a-mole. About 3000 new AI tools have been released over the past 12 months, with about 100 new ones each month. About 15-30 social publishing tools can create and schedule new content at a very rapid pace. That's a lot of AI noise flooding our attention ecosystems.

It also feels like trying to attract new attention is like running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. This tradition dates back to around the 15th century. Cattle herders needed a clever way to bring bulls from outside the city each morning to the bullring for the evening fight. To expedite the process, they’d excite the bulls by running and shouting. Eventually, local young men began jumping into the street with them to show their bravery. What began as a simple task evolved into a real test of courage.

The bulls always win the race. In marketing, the big guys outlast, outspend, and outperform smaller companies when it comes to organic search and AI answers, advertising, and overall attention-getting.

Within all of this, I have identified 3 challenges and 3 opportunities worth exploring.

(NOTE: The numbers presented come from internet and AI research, so I can't verify accuracy, but I have seen multiple reports that support the ranges.)

Top 3 Challenges

Attention scarcity and AI content saturation are a real bottleneck, but they also have clear, fixable drivers if you break them down by cause.

Volume Without Value

AI tools have made content cheap to produce, but…

  • Almost half of B2b marketers now say they struggle to get noticed in flooded feeds with mass-produced, AI-generated material. The result is social post fatigue.
  • More than half of B2b marketers say that audiences are overwhelmed by increasing content volume.
  • And a majority of B2b buyers either avoid social media or unsubscribe from emails because businesses abuse their trust with excessive messaging.

About 6 percent of marketers say AI tools have significantly improved content consumption, showing that more content doesn't always translate to more impact.

Your content must have relevance, purpose, and a payoff for people to stop scrolling, consume, and act.

Passive Scrolling vs. Active Engagement

Static, one-dimensional content no longer earns interaction from sophisticated buyers, which is why

  • B2b marketers are finding success prioritizing short-form video and quote graphics.
  • A majority have been experimenting with interactive formats like quizzes, ROI calculators, and assessments.

Engagement content works better because it disrupts passive scrolling and encourages participation, directly countering the “scroll past” behavior that drives down engagement rates.

Consider a leaner content strategy: cut 30-40% of underperforming assets and replace them with a few higher-impact pieces. Cutting through the noise takes creativity, not more noise.

Trust Erosion from Generic AI Output

Beyond volume, there's a growing perception that AI content is creating trust issues:

  • A 2026 Sprout Social survey found 39 percent of prospects are less likely to engage with a brand that posts obviously AI-generated content.
  • Buyers are actively tuning out posts and emails that “sound the same” and miss the mark by not speaking to their specific issues and needs.

Consider using AI for structure and research, while humanizing content in your brand's voice and sharing personal anecdotes.

Content built on authenticity and originality outperforms flooding the zone with posts.

Top 3 Opportunities

Personalization, data ownership, and creative differentiation are exactly where successful B2b teams are focusing their time, talents, and treasures in 2026. They turn AI disruption into an advantage.

AI-Powered Personalization at Scale

AI can help marketers move beyond generic one-to-many messaging and deliver segmented, even user-level, personalization.

  • Successful B2b marketers already use AI to target messages to buyers' specific interests.
  • AI advantages can include simple behavioral email triggers and predictive intent scoring.
  • You can create workflows that adjust email content based on segmented audiences, directing them to more personalized landing pages and blogs.

The key difference is real-time personalization. This can produce messages driven by actual account and behavioral data, not the same content for everyone in your lists.

First-Party Data as Competitive Moat

As third-party cookies disappear and AI cloaks user data, you can embrace data collection through content distribution that drives people to your own website. You can upload or integrate that data into your CRM. That data is a crucial step to making your marketing and measurement more impactful in 2026.

This gives you a competitive edge because it puts you in control of measurement rather than depending on third-party platforms with underlying motives (usually to mine your data for themselves).

The bottom line is you need a content strategy that drives people back to your website, and a localized system to capture and use the data collected. We use WP forms and a custom tool that not only tracks the user journey through your website, but also captures additional localized customer- and prospect-identifying data.

AI can be used to parse that data and integrate it with your email, CRM, and social tools.

Standing Out Through Thought Leadership… Not Volume

As AI becomes more common in creating content, what really sets you apart is your unique insights, strong perspective, and creative skills, not just how much you produce. Quality thought-leadership content presented in unique and creative ways will stand out in a sea of AI mediocrity.

Building consistent proprietary content takes time and investment. We have seen high ROI for customers who embrace this strategy with real data and sales results. This can help you avoid common industry mistakes and start to push your messages above the noise.

Search engines and social media platforms should hopefully begin to reward this human-based content trend by penalizing volume-first AI content and promoting more human-guided thought-leadership content.

You can combine all three opportunities to attract quality prospects and demonstrate real-world experience and expertise.

Closing Thought

I’m not sure if you feel the same, but it seems like many new AI companies are trying to sell their AI tools or prompts to bring in new customers. If these prompts really worked, wouldn’t they just use them to get more clients instead of trying to attract you from other companies?

I think it's bull!

Unless you have a fairly large or unlimited budget, you just can't outspend or out-scream the competition. I have seen prompts that propose that you can steal your competitors' marketing success ideas. If that worked, you wouldn't need a unique message and vision for your customers.

I think that's all just more noise.

B2b customers are way too savvy and sophisticated to fall for AI internet tricks. They have to trust you before they'll bet their company's profits, reputation, and ultimately their jobs on just any internet-based offer. Ultimately, your content has to build trust and relationships that create mutual respect and benefit.

Both your business and theirs depend on it!
